アメリカでは一年の内で最も暑い時期を「ドッグ・デイズ」と
表現するが、
1892年8月4日は、まさにその表現がぴったりと合う、
うだるような酷暑の日だった。
現にその年の最高気温を記録した日であった。

そして、後に「伝説の事件」と呼ばれるほどの殺人事件が
この日発生する事になる。

マサチューセッツ州フォールリバー。
当時、州でも3番目の大きさを持っていた
この町にボーデン家の邸宅があった。

事件現場となったボーデン邸

ボーデン家の主アンドリュー・ボーデンは
親の代から続く葬儀社の事業を拡大させ、
銀行業など様々な事業も行う、フォールリバーでも
有数の事業家だった。
後妻のアビーと前妻との間の子供達、
長女のエマ� �次女リジーの一家4人で暮らしていた。

8月4日、朝7時、すでに気温は30度に近かった。
ボーデン夫妻と前妻の兄ジョン・モースの3人は
朝食を共にしていたが、ボーデン夫妻は
吐き気と腹痛に襲われており元気のない様子だった。

メイドのブリジェット・サリバンは家の窓ふきを命じられていたが、
彼女も体調を崩していて、
思うままに作業を続けられない状況にあった。

うつ病ってどんな病気？

気温が暖かく、空がカラッと晴れた朝って気持ちが良いものですよね。
反対に、寒くてどんより曇った日は

なんとなく心まで沈み込んでしまいがち。
人のココロは、自分で思っている以上に

周りの環境に左右されやすいものです。

 

実は、心理状態を左右するのは環境ばかりではありません。

ケンコーコムが６月に実施する第三者割当増資の全額を引き受け、資本業務提携する。
15億円を投じ、ケンコーコム株の40％を取得。楽天子会社の保有株を合わせると、出資比率は51％になる。

　すでに楽天の投資子会社、ＲＳエンパワメント（東京・品川）はケンコーコム株の約18％を取得済み。

胸の痛みは、狭心症と心筋梗塞の代表的な症状です。狭心症は胸の中央部からみぞおちにかけて、胸部全体に漠然とした痛みが生じます。肩、首、腕、あご、歯などに痛みが走ったり、しびれを覚えることも。痛み方は「押されるよう」「しめつけられるよう」「重苦しい」「焼けるよう」「鈍痛」と人によりいろいろですが、どうにも我慢出来ないというほど強い痛みではありません。

安静にしていると通常5分以内、長くても10分以内でおさまります。一方、心筋梗塞の痛みは「死ぬのではないか」という不安や恐怖をともない短くても30分以上続きます。痛む場所は狭心症ととぼ同じですが、痛みの強さは狭心症とは比較にならないほど強烈で「胸をえぐられるよう」「焼け火箸を突っ込まれたよう」などと言われます。

L-カルニチン、コエンザイムQ10およびα-リポ酸は、ダイエット効果を標榜する「いわゆる健康食品」に含まれている話題の食品素材です。生化学の教科書では、これらの素材はいずれもエネルギー消費やエネルギー産生に重要な役割を果たすことが示されています(1)。従って、これら食品素材の摂取は脂肪燃焼を促し、ダイエットに効果的に作用する可能性が強調され販売されています。そこで本ミニレビューでは、脂肪燃焼に密接に関与する食品素材の一つであるL-カルニチンを取り上げ、その作用メカニズムや人での研究成果について紹介し、最近話題の機能性を考えてみたいと思います。

１. L-カルニチンとは

L-カルニチン（図−1）はリジンとメチオニンと言う２つのアミノ酸から肝臓や腎臓で作られる生体微量成分です。この他にも肉などから摂取されます。L-カルニチンは、体内でも造られる成分ですが、年齢とともにその生成量は低下することが知られています(2)。L-カルニチンは、筋肉細胞へ長鎖脂肪酸の受け渡しなど栄養成分の代謝に重要な働きをしています。また、光学異性体（分子内の化学結合が鏡像の関係にある異性体）であるD-カルニチンはL-カルニチンの働きを阻害すると考えられています。

国内では約50年ほど前より医薬品として用いられていましたが、2002年12月より食品としての利用が認められたことから、体内で脂肪酸燃焼に重要な関わりを持つL-カルニチンの生理機能に着目した「いわゆる健康食品」が、体脂肪燃焼効果を期待するダイエット食品として注目され始めました。

2. 体内におけるL-カルニチンの役割

体内でL-カルニチンは主に２つの働きをしています。

骨折や脱臼のない頚部脊柱の軟部支持組織（靱帯・椎間板・関節包・頚部筋群の筋や筋膜）の損傷が、頚部捻挫と説明されています。

医学上の骨折とは、骨自身の強度を超える大きさの直接的または間接的な外力を受ける事によって、その解剖学的連続性が絶たれた状態を示し、脱臼とは、外傷性脱臼の事で、強い力によって関節が生理的可動域を超えて動いてしまった結果、関節包の損傷や弛緩が生じて、関節面の相対関係が乱れ、関節面相互に持続的逸脱が生じた状態をいいます。捻挫とは、外力によって関節が生理的可動域を超えて動いてしまった結果、関節包や靭帯の損傷が生じて、一時的に関節面の相対関係が乱れるが、すぐに位置関係が戻った状態をいいます。一般的な捻挫の症状としては、疼痛、膨脹と軽度から中程度の機能障害を認めます。

ですからレントゲンでは確認することは難しい障害になります。ＭＲＩは椎間板、靱帯、脊髄・神経根などの頸椎指示軟部組織や神経組織の描出に有用な画像診断法です。損傷状態が確認できる場合があります。

しかし、多くの方は、ＭＲＩによる検査によって異常なしと診断され、軟部支持組織が損傷したどうかさえも明らかでないが、事故受傷後に明らかに障害が発生し、残存する症状が障害として苦しんでいる方です。

その不安を解消するためには、この障害そのものをご自身が知ることが大切です。

自賠責後遺障害等級認定のポイント

「局部に神経症状の残すもの」14級9号としての認定基準

傷病名が、頸椎捻挫・腰椎捻挫等の場合は、レントゲン写真・CT写真・脳波検査・脳血管写・気脳写・筋電図等の検査によって証明されにくい医学的に証明できる神経症状に該当せず12級としては厳しいのが実情です。では「医学的に説明できる」14級では、その認定のポイントは「神経系統の障害が医学的に推定できるもの」になります。

実務上から14級認定の備えるべき条件は下記３つです。

・6ヶ月以上の医療機関への通院履歴が確認できること。

・通院期間中に4週間以上の中断が無いこと。

・半年間で４０日以上の通院があること。

次に、級認定のポイントは下記４つになると思われます・

・受傷状況の確認

・残存する症状の具体的内容及び程度の確認

・受傷状況・症状経過と残存する症状の整合性の確認

・残存する症状、特に自覚症状と検査所見との整合性の確認

これらを医証により説明できる事が14級認定の要件になると思われます。被害者請求の際に添付する「後遺障害診断書」やその他の所見にて立証できるか否かが認定のポイントになります。

受傷時の診断傷病名と、その後残存する自覚症状を評価して、整合性が説明ができる事が大切です。

このタンパクの構造異常を見つけて修復してくれるのが、身体を加温すると増加する
「ＨＳＰ」(Heat Shock Protein＝熱ショックタンパク質)です。

　伊藤先生は次第に、このＨＳＰが多彩な病気を治す力を秘めていることに気がつかれ、
今はご研究の傍ら病気に苦しむ全ての人に、自分自身で増やすことができるＨＳＰの存在を知らせ、
元気を取り戻してもらいたいという思いで一杯だとのこと。

　その思いから、ＮＨＫラジオ「健康ライフ」に出演され、その時にお話しされた内容が全国的に評判となり、

　そこで早速、伊藤要子先生に、この興味深いご研究についていろいろお話をうかがいました。

ＨＳＰを増やす「マイルド加温療法」と「温熱療法」

ＨＳＰとは？

伊藤〕　最初は、ウサギを使って温熱による傷害を調べていました。

　あるとき、大変やせて実験に使用出来ないウサギが１羽いたので、その前の週に加温実験に使用したウサギを再度使用したのです。
加温温度を高くしていくと、通常、ウサギは播種性血管内凝固症候群（ＤＩＣ）になります。

　ＤＩＣとは簡単にいうと、悪性腫瘍、急性白血病、手術後などのさまざまな重症疾患をきっかけに、
小さな血管に血液の固まり（血栓）が生じ、危険な状態になることです。ヒトでも重篤な病気の末期には、たいていこのＤＩＣに陥ります。

　本来なら、高い温度で加温したウサギもこのＤＩＣになるはずなのですが、
なぜか１羽だけ高温で加温してもＤＩＣにならないウサギがいました。
それが、前の週に一度、加温実験に使用したウサギでした。つまり、あらかじめ加温したウサギは、次に高温で加温しても、
温熱傷害のＤＩＣにならなかったのです。
これを「温熱耐性」といいます。

　ＤＩＣが予備加温で防げるということは、臨床的には画期的なことです。
すぐに学会で発表しましたが、あまり注目されませんでした。

　この温熱耐性の原因物質が、ＨＳＰであることは後に、明らかになりました。
ＨＳＰは体の細胞１個１個の中にあります。そして、細胞の中で構造の崩れたタンパクを修復して細胞を元気にしてくれているのです。

　ＨＳＰは１９６２年、ショウジョウバエを高温環境で飼育したところ、大変増加するタンパクがあるということで発見されたタンパクで、
「熱ショックタンパク質（Heat Shock Protein:略語ＨＳＰ）」と呼ばれてます。
さらに熱ストレス（加温）以外でもさまざまなストレス（放射線、手術、感染、疲労など）でＨＳＰは増加するので、
ストレスタンパクとも呼ばれています。

　最近、このＨＳＰがさまざまな病気やストレス傷害から体を守り、老化や痴呆の予防、
さらには運動能力までも向上させることがわかってきました。

　我々の研究結果では、最も効率よく増加するストレスは、熱ストレスであったことから、加温によってＨＳＰを増加させています。
加温は、安全で、容易で、誰でも出来るので、ＨＳＰは上手に加温すれば誰でも増加させることが出来るわけです。

When Loopmasters released Shogun Audio Drum & Bass Vol. 1, the name Friction caught my attention. Friction aka Ed Keeley has made quite an impact on the drum and bass scene with his DJ skills and productions on various prominent labels like Hospital, Renegade Hardware, Valve, Tru Playaz, etc. I think I still have a copy of the Infantry E.P. with Friction and DJ Skinny (Nu Balance) on it, back from 1999.

Cortisol should turn off the stress response, however when the stress doesn't end, cortisol can't turn it off.

Information picked up by The Chronicle indicate that some of the fuel station managers have adjusted their fuel pumps, to enable them recoup the money stolen from them by the Oil Marketing Companies  (OMCs) and tanker owners and drivers.

The Chronicle gathered that though flow meters are used at the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) to measure petrol and other fuel products loaded into petrol tankers for onward distribution to the filling stations, the same standard, which is internationally recognised, is not applied when the fuel is being discharged at the filling stations.
